News of the sudden death of iconic pop legend Prince has shaken the world.
The ‘Purple Rain’ singer-songwriter, whose genre-defying songs shaped a generation, is reported to have passed away at his Paisley Park estate in Minnesota. Six days ago he was rushed to hospital with ‘flu-like symptoms’ after falling ill on his private plane.
57 year-old Prince Rogers Nelson’s death has shocked music fans; many of whom are still reeling from a seeming spate of stars dying before their time.
2015 closed with Motorhead’s Lemmy losing his battle with several serious illnesses, and 2016 began on a bum note with the unexpected announcement that David Bowie had died following a struggle with cancer. Grief was compounded shortly afterwards by reports that The Eagles’s star Glenn Frey had passed away.
And news that Keith Emerson of ELP had committed suicide continued the tragic trend, as did learning that ‘A Tribe Called Quest’ rapper Phife Dawg had left this world aged only 45 year’s-old, following years of diabetes and ill health.
