Royal heirs out in force: Prince George joins proud parents Kate and Wills on Royal International Air Tattoo tour

Having a father who flies an air ambulance should make him feel right at home.

And Prince George steals the show during a tour of the Royal International Air Tattoo with proud parents Prince William and Catherine, Duchess Of Cambridge.

Second heir to the throne William shows his son around the interior of a Squirrel helicopter, while Red Arrows pilots give him a tour of a Red Arrow Hawk cockpit during the family trip to the world’s largest military air show, held at Gloucestershire’s RAF Fairford.

The young British royal almost upstages his stylish mother in smart navy shorts paired with a white T-shirt and his customary Start-rite shoes. While Catherine co-ordinates his hue in a simple Stella McCartney cobalt-blue pencil skirt, styled with a Smythe navy blue blazer. The 34 year-old completes her runway-ready look with nude heels and keeps her chestnut tresses in check with an alice band.

The most advanced fighter jet in the world, the £70m Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II, is the star attraction at the three-day air show. Features include the ability to take off and land vertically, and it has a top speed of 1199mph – or 1.6 times the speed of sound.

This year’s air show includes special celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of the RAF Air Cadets, with a group of young cadets set to take to the skies with the Red Arrows. Kate took over as Honorary Air Commandant of the Air Cadets in December.
